Paal 3 is een van de bestemmingen uit het 'Wandelen op Terschelling' boekje. Traject 3 en 4 brengen je er naar toe. De route gaat over een begroeid pad en door de duinen. In de herfst en winter kan het pad op sommige plekken deels onder water staan. Aangepast schoeisel is dan ook handig. De routes brengen je daarna naar een hoge Noordzeeduin.

Het voert tussen hoge struiken door en je hoort op een gegeven moment dat er ergens achter die struiken water is, maar je ziet het niet. Als je linksaf slaat en het duin op klimt ("de Witte Kop") heb je een geweldig uitzicht.

LET OP: de Noordsvaarder is niet begaanbaar tijdens vloed. Met vloed kan je deze wandeling niet lopen. Zie Tips voor een getijdentabel. Mooie rondwandeling vanaf de haven van West-Terschelling. Al gauw ben je in de duinen vanaf de haven en staan je twee flinke klimmetjes te wachten, eerst naar de top van de Seinpaalduin, dan naar de top van de Kaapsduin. Op het randje van het Donkere Bos.
